NB: For preferred content and style of the case study, see the case_study_tips.htm page.
Choose your case from the list below. (Those already taken will be marked with an X.) Please email the convenor with your choice. Please contact the convenor if you do not have a case assigned by Week 5.
You may also pick another case not on this list provided you send the convenor a request, with information similar to that in the table below:
- the name of the case (the two parties, eg., Smith v Chan), the court and jurisdiction (eg., Supreme Court of NSW) or citation, and the year it was decided
- the URL of an official or full report of the text of the judgement
- URLs to one or two secondary commentaries on it, with author, title, source and date written.
See case_study_tips.htm for more detail on how to write the case study.
The format can include lists, tables and bullet points and should not be longer than 1,000 words.
Shorter briefing notes are encouraged, two pages.
It is an exercise in brevity and precision, not detail or lengthy explanation. You should cover the main required headings, but omit waffle.
You may include one or two useful (properly formatted, cited and complete) references, with links, but no need for an extensive references list.Case study briefing notes must be submitted by the end of Week 9 (by close of business Friday, check to see closing time, aim for a few hours in advance).
Please sign and staple a Law Faculty Cover Sheet to your submission, available here or from the counter on Law level 2. [links updated 2012]Submit to the student counter on level 2 of the Law Building, F8, lower campus off the main walkway near Anzac Parade. Go up escalators to level 1 and then around and up one set of stairs to level 2, or use lift. Counter is inside the glass reception area.
