One Day, We’ll All Invest This Way!
Regulating Online Investing

In Australia it is estimated there are approximately 1.5 million online investors. Through privatisations, demutualisations and especially through compulsory contribution and investment in superannuation for retirement income, most Australians will become active investors at some period in their lives. With the growing use of the Internet many of them will do so, online.

Despite the encouragement for individual investors to go online, there has been little research into the regulatory implications of the non-advisory context of their decision making. Further outside the United States, there are no significant treatments of the regulation of online investing generally. This site contains information on:

  • the Australian Research Council-funded project researching these issues entitled ‘One Day, We’ll All Invest This Way! Regulating Online Investment’, and its participants
  • seminars and other public events organised around the project, and publications relating to it
  • Australian and international resources about online investing and its regulation
  • postgraduate courses and research programs on related topics, and ways others may be able to participate or help

Research papers: see Publications for the latest work in progress.

Participate: As part of the project, we are seeking online investors and site sponsors to interview about their experiences and expectations online. We are doing this around Australia. If you would like to share your knowledge with us as an individual interviewee or part of a focus group, please send us an email or click on the link above to do the survey.

See Contact Us for details.

Survey: Regulating online investment – your chance to participate!
The short survey below, now closed, was designed to assist researchers from the University of NSW, Monash University and the Australian National University in assessing the need to provide protection for online investors through legal regulation.
